Getting around the cities in Spain

Image
There are tons of amazing towns throughout Spain that don’t have train stations—luckily, coach buses in Spain are widespread and much more comfortable and reliable than those in the US.  ALSA is the biggest bus company in Spain and has a reputation for great service. ALSA runs between major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, and León as well as small towns in every region in the country. A trip from Barcelona to Madrid will take you about 8 hours non-stop and will cost about €24.  Local tip: Rest stops off Spain’s major highways are really nice. Think fresh-squeezed orange juice, espresso, and lounge seating. Rental cars are always an option, but there are some things to consider Renting a car is a great way to get around Spain, but it has its drawbacks. If you come from a non-EU country, you’ll need an International Driver's Permit (which you can get through AAA).  The largest highways in Spain (with the highest speed limits) are aut...

COVID Testing in Málaga

What kind of test to I need to get back into the US? You  can use a rapid antigen test performed at a pharmacy, lab, clinic or government site.   You can use a qualifying self test.   The test must be a SARS-CoV-2 viral test (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or antigen test)   with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with Telehealth monitoring. Can I get a COVID test at Málaga airport? Yes, but only if you’re a departing passenger (you need to show a boarding pass to access the terminal). The testing centre carries out all 3 tests on an appointment basis – Rapid Antigen (cost €30) results are guaranteed in 2 hours. You book and pay via the  website  (some parts in English). Note that  it’s busy so book well in advance  to be sure you get an appointment.  Website Instructions: 1)  Click link above. 2)  Choose Malaga Airport. 3)  Choose Rapid Antigen Test 4)  Ch...

Apps to download before you go

Image
Here are apps that I find helpful: 1)  Maps (either Google or Apple) .  You want those directions handy! 2)  Mapsme     If you aren't going to have a cell phone data plan, this is a must.  This app lets you download the map for the city you're in.  Then, it uses your WIFI  location to start you on the map, and your pedometer  to track where you're  walking.  It will definitely help you get from point A to B.   3)  Cabify      Uber is not available in Spain in all ciities.  There is no Uber in  Barcelona nor in Alicante.  Cabify is an  app  for your phone that is   just like Uber.  It helps you hail a cab or arrange for one ahead of  time.   The service payment will be done  automatically in-app by  debit/credit card or PayPal.  The app gives a price estimate of your  ride before booking a car.   Prices change at peak/off  peak...
